Q?What do I do if my cat wants to go outside but I don’t want him/her exposed to the dangers of dogs, stray cats, other animals and cars?

Some cats just need to feel the sunshine on their faces and play in the grass. If your cat is one of these, it is best to allow him/her to do so or often behavioral problems will arise. My best recommendation is to properly fence in your yard with special fencing that not only keeps your cats in, but also keeps stray cats out. There are several types of cat fences that can be purchased over the internet. This is what I have done in my yard and it has solved all behavioral issues between my cats. If you don’t have a yard, there are other types of enclosures such as special cat tents, tunnels and even very large cages that will at least allow your cat to get some fresh air, be able to see, hear and touch the outside world, allow for a little bit of movement and still keep him safe. If any of these are not an option, try putting a window seat by an accessible window. Open that window whenever the weather permits so that your cat can get a whiff of the outside. For some kitties, that is all they need. Whatever your cat’s personality, the more you can allow him to exercise his body and his mind, the happier he will be.

Q?Does my CAT need vaccinations every year?

Yes and No. Again, I approach every animal on an individual basis to develop a vaccination plan that is appropriate for them. Most cats need the Feline Upper Respiratory complex vaccine or FVRCCP every 3 years in adulthood. The Feline Leukemia vaccine is an annual vaccine for cats that go outside and have regular exposure to stray cats. It is recommended that Feline Leukemia be included in all kitten vaccinations, but not boostered if the cat remains indoors only. Cats are also required to have Rabies vaccinations and can receive either the 1 year or 3 year variety. I recommend a special 1 year vaccine that has fewer additives and is less reactive since cats, if they are going to have a reaction, tend to have more serious reactions to vaccines than dogs.

Q?Does my DOG need vaccinations every year?

Yes and No. It is my philosophy to treat each pet individually and to vaccinate only as needed. Some vaccinations such as Canine Influenza, Bordetella (Kennel Cough) and Leptospirosis need to be boostered annually if your dog has exposure to such diseases. Other vaccines such as Parvo Virus, Distemper, Hepatitis, and Rabies can be given every 3 years in adulthood and still maintain effective immunity. There are special laws concerning Rabies vaccination so it best to keep good records at home of your pet’s vaccination history and always get Rabies boosters on time.

Q?Why should my pet be examined every year?

Yearly exams are important because many problems are often found early and are more easily treated than if discovered later. Also, annual parasite screening has important health implications for both you and your pet since several parasites found in animals are contagious to people.

Q?Can my pet have surgery done at our home?

YES. Many different surgeries can be performed in the surgery room inside the truck.
